Easy BLT Pizza Recipe

This is one of my FAVORITE recipes! Where I grew up there was a pizza place called Happy Joe’s that had amazing BLT pizza.
Whenever I got to choose where to go for my birthday dinner, it was always Happy Joe’s because I loved their BLT pizza. Plus, if it was your birthday you got a free ice cream sundae with a birthday candle in it and everyone in the restaurant sang Happy Birthday to you. Good memories 🙂
Anyway, I have long since moved away from my hometown back in Iowa and amazing BLT pizza is not so easy to come by. I live in Utah now, so I had to go in my brain and come up with this easy BLT pizza recipe idea.
(Happy Joe’s will FedEx me a pizza for a couple hundred bucks, but that’s not happening. So instead I have made up my own easy BLT pizza recipe that comes pretty darn close to tasting like Happy Joe’s BLT pizza. Yay for copycat recipes!)
Now I should mention sometimes I do make the sauce from scratch, sometimes I use canned. I pretty much always make my own dough (in the bread maker cuz I am lazy like that!), but if you don’t want to do that, you could easily buy some ready-made crust or defrost a loaf of Rhode’s frozen bread dough (just defrost it, don’t let it rise) and use that.
You can be as lazy or as creative as you want with this recipe!
BLT Pizza Recipe
- Pizza dough
- Pizza sauce
- 3 c shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3/4 c shredded cheddar cheese
- 4-5 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1-2 c lettuce, finely chopped
- 1 medium-sized tomato, diced
- 7 strips of bacon, cooked til crisp and then chopped
So for this recipe, you start out making a basic cheese pizza. You use whatever dough and sauce you want…homemade (which I prefer) or not. Once you have made your pizza dough (find my recipe here), you are ready to make your pizza!
If you are cooking on a pizza stone (which I strongly recommend), lightly flour the preheated stone.
(By the way, if you don’t have a stone, you can use a cookie sheet…but I am telling you…you NEED a pizza stone. They make the bottom of the crust a little crispy and wonderful!) I love my Pizzacraft 16.5″ Round Cordierite Baking/Pizza Stone – PC0101🙂
It is important that I mention that if you make it on a cookie sheet instead, you should lightly spray the cookie sheet with cooking spray before you press out the dough on the cookie sheet.
Using your hands and/or a rolling pin, shape the dough into a flat circle, then place it in the middle of the preheated pizza stone and using a rolling pin or your fingers, gradually press out the dough until it covers the whole pizza stone (be careful…don’t burn yourself!).
Using a large spoon spread around the marinara (find my recipe here) or you can always use jarred sauce if you are feeling lazy…cuz let’s face it…we are all lazy sometimes. Use just enough sauce to make a very thin layer.
Note: I use homemade sauce most of the time cuz…well, I think jarred sauce is sub-par. If I am going to use a jar I usually use Hunt’s garlic and herb pasta sauce. Technically I guess it is canned, not jarred…whatevs. You get the point 🙂
Anyway, after you finish that step, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese all across the top of your pizza, followed by the shredded cheddar cheese…
and then bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes.
Now that your basic cheese pizza is done, spread the mayo all over the pizza on top of the cheese (I know it sounds weird…just go with me on this one!).
Next top with lettuce, then tomato, then the bacon.
Voila! Easy BLT pizza!
It is sooo good!!! Enjoy! Bacon makes me so happy 😀 I am going to work on throwing an easy bacon recipe into the mix here on the blog periodically. Sound good? I thought so!
See you next time!
