As the end of the year approaches with crazy fast speed, I have been thinking a lot about life and what I want to accomplish in 2015. Women wear a lot of “hats”. They are different for all of us. I am thinking of all of the hats that I wear and how I can do things better in 2015 than I did in 2014.
Hat #1 Wife
My first marriage did not end well, but I remarried in 2004 to my husband, David. We have definitely had our share of challenges, but I am so grateful for him and how hard he works. He works 40-55 hours a week at his day job and still comes home and does all of the yard work, most of the chicken care, and fixes all things in need of fixing without complaint. Our life is very full and busy and it is rare that we get out and have fun on our own.
Goal for Hat #1 Go out on one date a month-just the two of us.
Hat #2 Mom
We have six kids. Three of them are adults on their own. Two are in high school (both 16 years old). They are all from our previous marriages. Then we have “ours”- our little Maya. She is four and we love her to bits. She has brought a lot of happiness to our home. Our lives are so busy that I sometimes have to remind myself to take time out to enjoy her because someday she, too, will grow up and leave home.
Goal for Hat #2 Spend time each day with Maya being “in the moment”. No smart phone in hand. No laptop in use. Engage her in conversation. Teach her.
Hat #3 OB Nurse
Part of my day job requires labor evaluations and non-stress tests on pregnant women. That involves fetal monitoring which I have been doing for 15 years.
Goal for Hat #3 This year I would like to study for, take, and pass the fetal monitoring certification exam.
Hat #4 Homemaker
Working 4 days a week as an OB nurse and having a four year old and running a blog…well…they make it hard to keep up with this hat. The cooking and cleaning sometimes have to play second fiddle to other things. I enjoy cooking when I have time (hence this blog has a lot of recipes). Cleaning…not so much. If I could pay someone to do it for me, I would.
Goal for Hat #4 Detailed organization of each room in our house. Organize a different room each month so that I can do it slowly and do it well.
Hat #5 Blogger
At the beginning of 2014, I started a blog. It is my creative outlet. I want to find people with similar interests to share thoughts and ideas with.
Goal for Hat #5 Post 3 times a week. Work hard to share those posts with people through various social media and my blog. Engage with my readers.
Hat #6 Guardian/Protector We live on a fault line in Utah and are overdue for a massive earthquake (this area gets one about every 100 years). We have had some tiny ones that are barely noticeable, both in terms of being felt and also in the sense that they were not bad enough to require much emergency preparedness. Sooner or later that luck may run out. If it does we want to be prepared.
Goal for Hat #6 Make all aspects of emergency preparedness a priority.
Now then…I want to know-what goals do you have for 2015? I’d love to hear about them!
